Te Wānanga o Aotearoa believes education is the most effective way through which people can transform their lives.
Education creates options and opportunities; it leads to increased economic independence and improved quality of life; it stimulates solutions to the challenges we face as individuals and our communities.
Our organisation was conceived on the notion that we could provide alternative education options for young people whose needs were not being met by mainstream education providers.
To this day, we continue to seek opportunities to engage, retain and support New Zealanders to succeed.
What we do
We offer a learning environment that’s uniquely Māori and that’s for everyone.
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa delivers education supporting tauira (students) to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to gain meaningful employment or learn new skills.
We're proud to have been delivering an alternative within the New Zealand tertiary education sector for 30 years, enhancing the skills and employment opportunities of more than 300,000 graduates.
We take pride in the fact that by providing an education grounded in mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) we enable our tauira to make effective and valuable contributions to their communities throughout Aotearoa.
Working here
We’re a Māori organisation grounded in Māori values.
Our values of Te Aroha, Te Whakapono, Ngā Ture and Kotahitanga are embedded in and woven through what we do to achieve successful outcomes for our tauira.
We believe that by helping our tauira to achieve success we achieve success as an organisation.
We provide a nurturing environment for our kaimahi (staff) to help guide and support them by offering professional development, coaching and experiences that grow their careers.
We’re focused on ensuring the wellbeing of all and we’re proud of the success that our holistic organisational wellness programme has on our kaimahi lives and their whānau.
All of this makes Te Wānanga o Aotearoa an inspiring place to work.
Our people
We’re always seeking new kaimahi for various roles, especially passionate kaiako (teachers) who can contribute to our tauira success.
We provide an environment to ensure our kaiako are strong, motivated, self-determined and self- reflective practitioners of ako (teaching/learning), facilitating highest quality learning experiences.
If you’ve got a passion for transforming the lives of our tauria, their whānau and communities and have subject matter expertise in the following areas, we would love to hear from you.
We have positions for passionate kaiako for the following programmes:
- Te Ao Māori
- Business
- Social Services
- Education (primary and tertiary)
