We’re proudly a kaupapa Māori organisation dedicated to improving the lives of our tauira (students), kaimahi (employees), and their whānau. We offer a uniquely Māori learning and working environment for everyone.
Our values of Te Aroha, Te Whakapono, Ngā Ture and Kotahitanga are woven through everything we do:
- We offer a whānau-friendly workplace because, no matter how important our mahi, whānau comes first.
- Kaimahi are our greatest asset, so we nurture, guide and empower them to grow their skills, capability and understanding of te ao Māori.
- Making sure our kaimahi are supported and engaged ensures our tauira receive the quality of education and inspiration they need to succeed. Their success is our success.
This is just part of what makes Te Wānanga o Aotearoa an inspiring place to work. We also offer some great benefits to support wellbeing:
- Free health and life insurance for permanent kaimahi (0.5FTE or higher)
- 4 extra leave days each year to celebrate Matariki and the Christmas/New Year season
- Flexible work hours (for non-rostered roles) and the option to work from home up to 2 days each week (for roles that can be performed remotely)
- Special leave available for those involved in cultural or sporting events at a regional or national level
- Access to our award-winning Tau Ora programmes that encourage wellbeing and inclusion
- Free car parking at our main campuses

Enabling our mahi
Guided by our council, Te Mana Whakahaere, our structure is designed to foster and nurture our values, and increase collaboration, innovation, and efficiency across all levels of our organisation.

We're always on the look out for new kaimahi who thrive on adding value, sharing their knowledge, and learning new skills. We offer a wide range of job opportunities to cater to most sectors or industries, but we’re particularly keen to hear from passionate kaiako (tutors) who want to make a difference in the lives of our tauira. You don’t need to be fluent in te reo or tikanga Māori for most roles, and there’s heaps of opportunities to learn along the way.
You’ll have the tools and the support to do your job and you’ll be part of a whānau that is motivated, enthusiastic and committed to our mission of tauira success.
If this kaupapa sounds like you, and you’ve got a passion for transforming lives, join us and be part of a brighter future for all peoples of Aotearoa.
About us
The founders of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa understood the importance of knowledge and learning. Through personal sacrifice and a single-minded commitment to our vision whānau transformation through education, they established a successful, values-based, inclusive tertiary education organisation for all New Zealanders. From humble beginnings with less than 20 students, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa has grown to be one of the largest and most successful tertiary institutions in the country delivering education to over 26,000 students nationwide each year.
