Learning Devices

Frequently Asked Questions

During your programme, you may be required to use your personal learning device to complete online learning outside of class hours.

What if I already have a device?

If you already have a device that is able to connect to the internet, you should be fine to use this throughout the programme. We recommend that you check with your kaiako beforehand just to make sure.

What devices are we talking about?

Devices for your programme may include, depending on your preference for learning, a tablet, iPad, laptop computer and/or desktop computer.

Do I have to use a particular device?

Make sure that the device you select is appropriate for you.

Some people like using tablets because of the larger screen and portability but others are used to using a laptop computer with a keyboard.

At the end of the day, this is your purchase, so think carefully about how the device will be used going forward.

Will the Wānanga provide me with a learning device for this programme?

Unfortunately, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa will not be providing devices to tauira.

There may be computer labs available for tauira outside class hours but the availability will vary from site to site.

We have worked hard with our suppliers to come up with discounted prices if you require it. If you’re studying with us, do not have your own device and would like to purchase one, you can log in to tauira.twoa.ac.nz – our tauira support website – for device offers and discounts.

If I need to purchase a new device, which one would be the best for my programme?

Our team is continously working to identify devices that would be the best to use for your programme.

If you need assistance in purchasing a learning device, please contact our technology support team (Hangarau) so they can guide you through your options.

We do recommend a Windows or Android-based learning device, as we can provide more support with these operating systems.

What if I have an iPad or Apple device? Will this still work?

Yes, as long as the device can access the internet. There is a slight limitation with Apple devices in that you will not be able to complete work offline if you do not have access to the internet. Other than that, Apple devices are fine to use.

How do I purchase one of the recommended devices?

We recommend pbtech.co.nz, as we use them for our own technology purchases.

Fax: 09 580 0504

What are my options for payment?

You can choose to pay for the device using the online purchasing process:

  • Credit card
  • Internet banking (Pay with POLi)
  • Finance Now options
  • Q Card
    • Q Eftpos
    • Q Mastercard – Long Term Finance
  • Farmers Finance Card

Please note interest charges may apply.

Can I get financial support for purchasing a learning device?

You can contact studylink.govt.nz and ask about receiving course-related costs as part of the student loan scheme. You may need to provide information regarding your preferred device.

If this is your first time applying for StudyLink’s course-related costs, you will need to provide certain information in order to gain access to these funds.

How do I access the internet on my device?

If you do not have WiFi access at home or outside of class hours, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa will provide free WiFi internet access from selected sites. This will mean that you will need to travel to these sites to access the internet.

There are also free internet services in most community libraries and some local venues/retailers. You may need to seek these out within your community.

If you are based in a remote site or your classes are not being held at a WiFi capable site, you will be advised if there is WiFi availability.

Data can be purchased from local stores or mobile internet companies as well.
