Want to learn about kaupapa Māori (Māori policies and practices) for your work or business? Or learn about running a business but don't have time to attend classes? Mana Ora could be the perfect course for you.

Mana Ora is a unique programme where you'll learn about running a business and kaupapa Māori at the same time - from the comfort of your own home. You'll receive all the resources you need to learn, and get the support of an experienced kaitiaki (support person) who will visit you during your studies.

When you pass this programme, you'll get this qualification:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Māori Business & Management Level 3

You'll learn about:

  • te reo and tikanga Māori (Māori language and culture)
  • business planning and strategy
  • marketing and branding
  • business communications and stakeholder relationships
  • leadership, management and teamwork
  • the Treaty of Waitangi
  • personal and professional development

How you'll study:

This is a part-time programme that consists of 60 credits delivered over 9 months.

Throughout the programme you will be required to complete set activities each week from home. These activities will take approximately:

  • 17 hours of learning per week.

All details regarding your learning are available within your kete that are sent to you throughout the programme.


Entry criteria:

To enrol in this programme, a potential student must:

  • be at least 16 years of age
  • be a New Zealand citizen or resident (or citizen of Australia, Tokelau, Niue or the Cook Islands
  • reside in New Zealand

Increase your business knowledge by enrolling in Smart Steps to Business Level 3 or the Te Pōkaitahi i te Pakihi iti - Certificate in Small Business Level 4.

I want to use my qualification

You'll have the skills, knowledge and confidence to develop a kaupapa Māori approach for your work or business. You could also use your skills to work with, and within, Māori businesses and organisations as well as a range of other businesses.

Explore the concepts of kotahitanga and whanaungatanga in relation to te reo, tikanga, business aspirations and practices.


Business Management Skills and Relationships (Whanaungatanga) | 20 Credits

Explore the concepts of kotahitanga and rangatiratanga in relation to business planning, stakeholder relationships and management development.


Business Management Development (Kotahitanga) | 20 Credits

Explores the concepts of kotahitanga and rangatiratanga in relation to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, leadership and teamwork.
