Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is now accepting applications for semester B which includes 4 new programmes designed to meet the increased demand for new and updated study options to benefit tauira, whānau, hapū and iwi.
The new programmes on offer are Manu Taiko – Toro Parirau Certificate in Māori Governance, Certificate in Digital Media and Design, Certificate in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills, and Certificate in Study and Employment Skills.
Each programme has been thoughtfully designed by a team of dedicated programme developers who have gathered feedback from kaimahi and tauira of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa as well as hapū, iwi, subject matter experts, and other external stakeholders. This collaborative approach ensures that the programmes align with the growing needs of learners and communities of Aotearoa.
“When developing these programmes, we made sure to keep the mission and vision of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa at the heart of our decisions. Tauira success and whānau transformation through education are at the forefront of what we do. We want to continue providing meaningful and relevant educational opportunities that are accessible to all types of learners,” says Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Chief Executive Evie O’Brien.
Manu Taiko – Toro Parirau Certificate in Māori Governance is a level 4 qualification created for those who are interested or already in a governance role and first-time practitioners. The 20-week programme aims to develop leadership and governance skills for Māori governors within a kaupapa Māori context, building confidence and preparing for success in governance roles.
The level 4 Certificate in Digital Media and Design equips tauira with practical skills to create digital media using modern tools, software, and technology. The programme is designed for rangatahi, aspiring designers, and industry professionals who want to develop their creative and technical skills and expertise, while integrating te ao Māori perspectives in their design practice.
Certificate in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills is a 15-week, level 2 programme well suited to rangatahi although it is open to anyone who would benefit from pre-trades training. The purpose of this certificate is to develop the basic skills and knowledge of tauira who aspire to gain a career in building, construction, and allied trades.
The level 4 Certificate in Study and Employment Skills will equip tauira with the skills, knowledge, and attributes to pursue higher education or enhance employment opportunities. Across 20 weeks, tauira will be supported to advance in their chosen study or career pathway while learning about the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
Integrating mātauranga Māori and te ao Māori perspectives in all aspects of life at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is integral to the foundation of the organisation and this includes how programmes are developed and taught. New programmes will continue to reflect these values by weaving traditional knowledge, tikanga, and kaupapa Māori into both the curriculum and delivery modes.
“We will continue to introduce new programmes while also improving current ones that we have on offer over the coming years. Our kaimahi who are involved in the development of these programmes are committed to the success of our tauira and as an organisation we are excited to see tauira take up the opportunity to grow their skills, expand their knowledge, and achieve their aspirations,” says Evie.
