Ataahua, a group of Hamilton Girls’ High School tauira took out the Māori Business Award at the Waikato King Country Young Enterprise Scheme Annual Awards for their beauty products that were created using only natural ingredients.
The group made a gift pack of bath bombs, body butter and other things that utitlised harakeke extract and other natural ingredients.
The gift packs were presented in woven harakeke baskets that were made with the help of one of the team member’s grandmothers.
YES involves students setting up and running a real business and the creating, promoting and selling of a product or service.
Students also conduct market research, planning, budgeting, risk management and finding solutions for problems.
YES regional manager Mary Jensen said she was thrilled with the calibre of entries this year.
“All students can be extremely proud of what they have achieved this year. Young enterprise in our region is alive and kicking,” she said.
